IntroductionI come from Beijing, China. Before I came to the U.S., I studied in Wuhan Institute of Technology, majoring in English + Marketing. When I was a sophomore, I worked as an Escort interpretation. At that time, I accompanied two professors from the U.S. and assisted with their entire schedule. I worked as a translator when professors deliver their speeches in our university and we shared different intercultural communication issues. From then on, I made a decision I should visit my dream land --the U.S. someday.

After the graduation, I studied in Minzu University of China (MUC). I am going to receive my first master’s degree of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in June, 2014. At MUC, I worked as a Chinese tutor and my students came from different countries like Thailand, Japan, Korean, and America. I accompanied them to experience Chinese culture and customs to help generate their interest in learning. Between 25th May and 9th June, I was a key role of the MUC and Old Dominion University (ODU) program. I worked as an instructor to teach a class of six students Chinese and introduced Chinese culture to them. From these experiences I realized my life long career is to be a teacher teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. It is more fun than I have ever imagined.

Since MUC has a joint program with URI, I think it’s a good opportunity to make my dream come true. I applied for URI’s master program without hesitation. When I arrived on campus, and when the first class began, I know I had made a wise decision. I was impressed most by the beautiful scenery and nice, helpful professors. I’m extremely excited to start my study and living in URI.
